Working in heights > 2 meters

Life-Saving rules working at height

Safety rules working in heights

  • You must not work at height alone.

  • Before working at heights above 2 meters, a safety assessment must be carried out. The supervisor is responsible. This must be documented.

  • You must use an approved fall arrest harness with two hooks.

  • You must have documented training in the use of the harness.

  • When using a stool or stepladder on scaffolding or external platforms, and the distance to the railing is less than the height of the stool/ladder, you must use a fall arrest harness.

  • Attach the fall arrest harness as high as possible to reduce a possible fall. The anchor point must withstand a force of at least 1500 kg.

  • Block off the area below the workplace if there is a risk of falling objects (see more about falling objects).

  • Check that the fall arrest harness has an approved annual certification - similar to lifting equipment.
